Residential Project:
Demolition Plan

For this assignment, I recreated a provided floor plan in ΒΌβ scale utilizing correct line weights. My clients wish to remodel their one- bedroom apartment. They want to open up the small kitchen to the living area to create
a more open-plan environment. Existing appliances will be reused but the cabinetry will be replaced. In
addition, they want the study to become a second bedroom with a closet. All doors will be replaced. All
windows will be replaced with windows the same size currently used. All demolition is shown with a dashed line. I placed the demo plan on a 11"x17" plan sheet. I made sure to include an N arrow and add dimensions of the demolition. I drew this at a 1/4" scale on a sheet of vellum.

THE SAFFER HOME
SCHEMATIC DESIGN PROCESS

ADJACENCY MATRIX
I identified each key area of the Saffer home within this adjacency matrix. Coding primary, secondary areas of the home and those with no direct relation to one another.
This adjacency matrix satisfies the wants and needs of The Saffers but also making sure each adjacent is logical.

BUBBLE DIAGRAM
A bubble diagram helps the designer, architect, and client identify the location of rooms in the home. I developed this diagram with the adjacencies from the matrix and made sure it was functional and approved by the clients.

BLOCKING PLAN
Using the final bubble diagram, I created a blocking plan that transitions the bubble diagram into the floor plan’s constraints. This gives the clients a taste of the final floor plan.
β
Like in the adjacency matrix and bubble diagram, I included a legend that labels the public and private spaces in the home.
Preliminary Plan
Using the blocking plan as a foundation, I created this preliminary plan of the home. I included corridors, doors, cabinetry, appliances, room labels, and plumbing fixtures. These additions were developed with the inspiration from the Saffer Family.
β
Using a 1/4" scale, I hand-drew this plan on vellum after I traced over the blocking plan on trash paper and developed corrections.

Floor
Plan
This formally hand-drafted plan includes room labels, furniture, and walls. I made sure to include a 5' turn around in the master bedroom and bathroom so that the home grows with the family. All of this on a 1/4" scale.
β
This final floor plan gives the Saffers a taste of their new home. With the excitement of knowing where things are going to be, having their dream come to life.
FURNITURE, FIXTURES & EQUIPMENT
I have selected interior decorating elements for the home that best compliment the home and the Saffer family. My goal for decorating was to create a modern artisanal, but cozy home. I was inspired by the family's past travels to Greece and Turkey, choosing warm earth tones, gold accents and durable materials.

House
Presentation
I have created this digital presentation that incorporates everything I have done for this house project. This is to "pitch" the home to the Saffer Family. In this presentation, I explain the design process and show that I have listened to the Saffers to give them the dream that will grow with them.
β
I wanted to make sure I developed a uniform message across this entire project. Spending time on the graphics, colors, and fonts in order to create a professional presentation.
